STEVENS POINT, Wis (WSAU) A man from Plover was found guilty of strangling his girlfriend. She survived the attack and called police. 25-year-old Andrew Ulrick pled no contest to strangulation and obstructing an officer during an appearance in Portage County court. As part of the plea, the judge dismissed a more-serious charge of attempted first-degree homicide and domestic abuse.

Prosecutors say they'll ask for 9 months in jail during sentencing on February 20th.

His girlfriend called police saying he pinned her down and began choking her last September. The two had been drinking and arguing before the incident.
