OZAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (WTAQ) - A $50,000 cash bond was set Wednesday for a Brown Deer man charged with causing a hit and run crash that killed an elderly couple.
35-year-old Daniel Fagan appeared in Ozaukee County Circuit Court on 2 counts of negligent homicide and 2 charges of fatal hit and run.
Authorities said his SUV struck and killed 72-year-old Leonid Krol and his 69-year-old wife Emiliya on Sunday night, as they were walking along a road in Mequon. The couple was from Brown Deer.
Fagan has been convicted 4 times for drunk driving, but prosecutors do not say whether alcohol or drugs were involved in Sunday’s crash. He turned himself in on Tuesday, soon after police obtained a search warrant for his vehicle.
Police said Fagan stopped to check on the crash victims – and when he saw no signs of life, he reportedly panicked and drove home. Fagan is due back in court January 18th, when the status of his case will be reviewed.
