Milwaukee, Wis. (WHBL) - One man was killed and another was injured overnight in a house fire on Milwaukee’s north side. A police officer saw smoke billowing from the home while on patrol about one this morning. Authorities said the officer woke a 74-year-old man on the first floor, and helped him escape. But the officer could not get to a 64-year-old man on the second floor where the fire began. Officials said the smoke and the flames were too intense for the officer to go upstairs. Fire-fighters located the dead man’s body later. The names of the victims and the police rescuer were not immediately released. The state Fire Marshal is helping Milwaukee investigators determine what caused the fire.
