Today, in unlikely casting news: Nicolas Cage and John Cusack are currently in talks to star in The Frozen Ground, a thriller based on the true story of Alaskan serial killer Robert Hansen. Hollywood newbie Scott Walker will direct the film, from his own script. According to Deadline, Cusack is being considered for the role of Hansen while Cage would play the "principled and dedicated" state trooper who tracks the killer down. John Cusack as serial killer, and Cage as relatable everyman? Well, that's new and different. I'm imagining some sort of glorious mashup between The Wicker Man and Grosse Pointe Blank.
Alaska's most notorious serial killer, Hansen murdered between 17 and 21 people in the 70's and 80's. The killer would kidnap women, release them into the Alaskan wilderness, and hunt them down. At the risk of sounding like a terrible person, that does sound like it could be a tense, terrifying premise for a horror film.
Cusack is next appearing in The Raven, another murder mystery centered around the last days of Edgar Allen Poe. Nicolas Cage, still working off his tax issues by appearing in any film that will stand still for long enough, recently wrapped filming Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance.
