APPLETON, Wis. (WSAU) – Appleton North has knocked Wausau West out of the state baseball tournament.
The Lightning shut out the Warriors 11-0 in a game that ended in the 5th inning because of the 10-run rule. West starter Brett Ziegel gave up 10 runs but only four were earned.
Appleton North jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the 1st inning and a seven-run rally in the 2nd inning.
Lightning starter Mason Pingel gave up just two hits and struck out nine to pick up the win.
The Warriors finish their season 21-5.
North goes on to play the winner of the semifinal game between Eau Claire North and Reedsburg.
