STEVENS POINT, Wis (WSAU) U-W Stevens Point Chancellor Bernie Patterson says he's worried that Governor Walker will propose separating U-W Madison from the rest of the U-W system. He says the U-W brand would be diminished without its flagship campus.

The governor may offer more specifics on his plan when he speaks about his two-year budget proposal this afternoon.

Many U-W Madison officials support the change, saying it will give them more flexibility over tuition and campus finances. Most other schools within the U-W system are opposed. Patterson sent a letter to Governor Walker outlining his concerns last week.
