NEW Lutheran put on a furious finish to their Division 5 state semifinal game at the Kohl Center Thursday afternoon but the rally came up short in a 56-49 loss to small school powerhouse Randolph. The same teams met in last year's Division 4 title game, won by the Rockets 58-40. Once again, NEW Lutheran fell behind early. Trailing 40-21 late in the third quarter, the Blazers caught fire, especially senior guard Kaylor Zimmerman. He scored 17 of his 22 points in the 4th quarter on 6 of 6 shooting including a pair of three's. Suddenly, NEW Lutheran was within 48-46 but they could get no closer. The Blazers finish the year at 22-5 Randolph will play for it's 9th state championship meeting Clayton in the Division 5 final Saturday. Clayton defeated Wauzeka-Stueben 48-37. In the Division 4 semifinals, two unbeaten teams were denied a trip the the title game. Top ranked Blair-Taylor was upset by Grantsburg 54-49 in overtime and Marathon got 31 points from Cody Henke in knocking off Oostburg 68-50. Little Chute plays Racine St. Catherine's in Division 3 semifinal today at the Kohl Center, Seymour goes against Whitefish Bay in Division 2 and the final game of the night, a Division 1 semifinal, pits De Pere against unbeaten Appleton East in a rematch of last year's Sectional championship, won by the Patriots at the buzzer.
