Detroit scored three times in the third period, capped by Tomas Holmstrom's winner with less than seven minutes to go as the Red Wings topped the Sharks in San Jose, 4-to-3.
The victory in the Western Conference semi-finals is the second straight while facing elimination for Detroit, which now trails 3-to-2 heading into Game Six, which they will host tomorrow night. Danny Cleary, Jonathan Ericsson, and Niklas Kronwall also scored forDetroitwhile Pavel Datsyuk had three assists. Jimmy Howard was big in net for the Red Wings, making 39 saves as the Sharks outshot Detroit 42-to-22.
The Red Wings are trying to become just the fourth team in NHL history to win a playoff series after losing the first three games.
Last night in the ECHL, the Kalamazoo Wings shutout the Nailers in Wheeling 4-to-0, giving the K-Wings a 3-games-to-2 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals. Game Six is tomorrow night inKalamazoo.
