GERMANTOWN, WI (WTAQ) - Authorities say 10 vehicles were involved in a chain-reaction crash on the Highway 41-45 freeway in Germantown Tuesday morning. At a news conference, Police Chief Peter Hoell said at least one person died, and there could be more because the wreckage was still being checked early this afternoon. Six people were taken to hospitals. One of them had to be extricated, and Hoell said that person was responsive despite having serious injuries. Based on early information, the chief said all the victims were adults. He would not confirm reports that a northbound semi-truck crossed the median and hit the other vehicles going south. That’s still being investigated. The crash occurred just after 9 a.m., and officials said the road was wet-and-slippery at the time. Haz-mat crews were called because of the semis apparently leaked diesel fuel. The entire freeway closed all morning, but the northbound lanes re-opened shortly after noon.
