STEVENS POINT, Wis (WSAU) Stevens Point's finance committee heard public comments last night on possible budget cuts for next year. The city is facing a $1.5-million shortfall.
Mayor Andrew Halverson says the budget cuts may be the deepest the city has ever experienced.
Halverson is also recommending that school crossing guards not be cut. The police and fire commission had considered continuing the crossing guards through the end of the school year, but not bringing them back next fall. The savings would have been about $20,000. The Mayor says the cuts that do move forward will not impact public safety.
