Milwaukee, Wi (WSAU) Ryan Braun and Jose Reyes are tied the National League batting lead going into the final full week of the regular season. Both are hitting .330 after last night’s action. Braun and the rest of the Milwaukee Brewers are off today, while Reyes and the New York Mets play an afternoon contest at Saint Louis. The Brewers have never had a league batting champion, and neither have the Mets. Braun says it’s the biggest title an individual hitter can win – and he said it would be special if he wins it. Braun says all players strive for consistency – and he doesn’t believe a player can win a batting crown without being consistent throughout the year. This weekend, Braun will face Florida pitchers Chris Volstad, Alex Sanabia, and Ricky Nolasco. Braun is 2-for-9 lifetime against both Volstad and Nolasco. And he has never faced Sanabia. The Brewers’ magic number is three to clinch the National League Central, and they could win the title during the Marlins’ series. Should they clinch, Brewers’ manager Ron Roenicke said he would be open to resting players in any remaining games to preserve statistical achievements. Roenicke said the players work hard all year – and if there’s a meaningless game at the end, he’ll let the player with the milestone decide what he wants to do.
