Even though Jennifer Lopez wanted to, the American Idol judges didn't end up using their one save of the season on Deandre Brackensick Thursday night, but he told reporters Friday that he didn't mind, because he'd already been saved enough.
Deandre noted that that he'd tried out last year for the show, and had finally made it through this year, and then been chosen as a Wild Card by Steven Tyler when he failed to garner enough of America's votes to make the Top 10 on his own.
"Because I was a Wild Card, I just think I don't need to be saved again," he told reporters. "This is my second chance from last year, and then I got a second chance with Wild Card. You know, you only get so many second chances in life." Lasting on the show as long as he did, the young singer believes, has given him a huge boost and he thinks he can take it from there. "I think even getting this far, I can build something off of this," he notes, adding, "And I think [the judges] believe in me too -- that I don't really need the whole show to be who I wanna be."
What's next for Deandre? After a round of press, he'll heading back home to San Jose, California and attend his prom on April 21. Then, there's the Idol tour this summer. After that, he says he wants to make an album that will highlight the kind of old school R&B flavor he brought to the show. "My style, my voice is not popular nowadays," he said. "I'm trying to bring back something. It's something that got lost and unappreciated in this new generation."
By the way, in case you're wondering: Deandre's amazing hair is completely natural. The only product he uses in it is some leave-in conditioner.
