The King's Speech play to close

The play has suffered poor ticket sales, and producers are convinced it was too soon to stage a theatre version of the 2011 movie, which starred Colin Firth.

Despite the stage play receiving rave reviews, it will now end its run at London's Wyndham Theatre on 12 May.

A statement from producers reads, ""Two years ago, originating producer Michael Alden was ready to put the play on and the film came along and blocked its path. At the start of this year, we believed that enough time had passed between the film and our opening. This clearly was not the case.

""We are extremely proud of what we have accomplished. It is a production of genuine quality that has been critically and publicly acclaimed across the board.""

The film took $414 million (£261 million) at the U.S. box office and scooped four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Firth.
