Thinking of bringing some bottled water with you to enjoy when you head out to a Jason Mraz concert in the coming months? Well, leave the Poland Spring at home. Jason has teamed with Brita, the water filter company, to encourage fans to cut down on bottled water waste.
At each stop on Jason's current Tour Is a Four Letter Word trek, Brita is providing free filtered "hydration stations," where fans can fill up reusable bottles with water instead of buying single-use ones. If they don't have one, they'll be able to buy special Jason Mraz-edition Brita Bottles on site; they have built-in filters.
In a statement, Jason says, "Each and every one of us is responsible for leaving the planet in a better condition than how we found it. One simple but powerful action we can all take is eliminating our disposable water bottle usage." He estimates that by the time the tour ends, he'll have kept an estimated 35,000 bottles out of landfills.
In other Jason Mraz news, he says he plans to involve himself somehow in the upcoming presidential election. Asked by the Atlanta Journal Constitution if he plans to do any campaigning as Election Day approaches, he says, "Yeah, probably so. I think the swing states, especially. Personally, this isn’t a partisan issue, but I think a four-year term is too short."
Jason goes on to explain, "No matter who you are, you’re going to be met with opposition, so you spend the first two years dealing with that, and then it’s time to start thinking about campaigning so you have zero time to get anything done." He adds, "I applaud [President] Obama for all that he has done and would love to see him have another four years to complete his mission."
