WESTON, Wis. (WSAU) – Everest Metro Police say they're investigating a series of six church breakins over the past week.
Working with police in Rothschild, they've tracked 6 burglaries so far since August 12. Captain Clay Schultz says the burglar or burglars are forcing their way into the churches. “This isn't unlocked doors, they're forcing doors or breaking windows.” Most of the entries have been made at night.
The six churches hit so far are New Hope Community Church in Easton, St. Marks in Rothschild, Mount Olive Lutheran in Weston, Bethany Baptist in Weston, Highland Community in Weston, and St. Agnes in Weston.
Schultz say officers have collected evidence at the crime scens and are investigating at this point. “There's still some information we're not releasing since this is an ongoing investigation.”
Police are asking residents to keep an eye out on their nearby churches. If you see any suspicious activity at night or hear anything that might sound like a break in, call your local police immediately. Anyone with information on these breakins can also call Everest Metro at 715-359-4202.
