MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) The Milwaukee Brewers are cutting ties with left-hander Manny Parra. General manager Doug Melvin said yesterday he would not give Parra a tender offer for a 2013 contract.

Last night was the deadline for Major League teams to offer new contracts to everyone on their 40-man rosters. Parra is one of five Brewers eligible for salary arbitration early next year, but he’s the only one not to get a tender offer. Melvin said that by releasing Parra now, he’d have a better chance to sign with another team. And even though he’s been a reliever lately, Melvin says he believes Parra has the talent to return to a starting role with somebody else.

The 30-year-old Parra was the Brewers’ 26th-round draft choice in 2001. He was the team’s minor league pitcher of the year in 2007. He was in the Milwaukee rotation in 2008-and-’09, but he missed all of 2011 with back and elbow trouble. As a reliever this year, Parra went 2-and-3 with a five-point-oh-six E-R-A.
