Movie about Honor Flight showing in Wausau area

WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) -  The Honor Flight program that takes veterans to Washington to see their war memorials is now the subject of a documentary movie. That movie is playing in the Wausau area starting tonight. Jim Campbell is one of the driving forces behind the Honor Flights that fly out of Central Wisconsin Airport several times a year.

He says he took part in a screening of the movie at Miller Park, where a record was set for the number of people seeing a movie premiere. He said it was an emotional experience for him and thousands of veterans. “...And you better have kleenex, you better have hankies. I tell you, even with 30,000 people around you, I was crying like an eight year old girl and so was everybody else. It’s a very moving story.”

Campbell says the movie is a documentary, and it’s already getting talked about as a possible academy award winner. “This movie grabs you right by the soul. It introduces you to a handful of veterans and follows them through the process of hearing about the honor flight, about signing up, their experience on the honor flight, while they’re visiting the memorials that were built for them in their honor, and follows them after. It follows some of them to the end of their life.”

He says the Honor Flight movie shows many of the things he has seen in the Mosinee-based flights, and it’s very accurate and moving.

The Honor Flight documentary is showing at Cedar Creek Cinemas. Show times are 5 pm, 7:15 pm, and 9:30 pm.
