Badgers Won't Pursue Chryst

MADISON, WI (WSAU) The Wisconsin football team will host a large number of recruits this weekend. And athletic director Barry Alvarez says his goal is to keep those incoming freshmen next fall, in the wake of coach Bret Bielema’s resignation. The A-D said Bielema used Alvarez’s game plan to make it to three straight Rose Bowls – and he does not expect the new coach to change very much of the Badgers’ system.

Alvarez said today that the coach he hires quote, “will have to understand who we are , how we go about our business.” He said the new coach would be, quote, “someone who cares about kids, someone that understands Wisconsin, and will be a good fit for us.”

But Alvarez said that someone would not be Paul Chryst, who left the U-W a year ago to become the head coach at Pittsburgh. Alvarez said he would feel terrible to make Chryst leave his current post after just one year. Alvarez addressed a number of topics when he confirmed that he would coach the Badgers at the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day against Stanford.
