Max Clifford arrested in sex abuse probe

From WENN.com

Famed celebrity publicist Max Clifford has been arrested as part of a U.K. investigation into sexual abuse sparked by allegations against late TV star Sir Jimmy Savile.

The 69-year-old public relations agent, who has represented Simon Cowell and O. J. Simpson, was detained on Thursday (06Dec12) by cops working on Operation Yewtree, a probe into claims that Savile abused up to 300 youngsters throughout his long-running entertainment career.

Authorities revealed he is being interviewed about offences that do not directly relate to Savile.

A police statement reads: ""Officers working on Operation Yewtree have this morning, Thursday 6 December, arrested a man in his 60s in connection with the investigation.

""The man from Surrey was arrested at 07.40hrs on suspicion of sexual offences and has been taken into a central London police station.""

The PR guru is the sixth individual to be questioned as part of Operation Yewtree. Clifford's lawyer Charlotte Harris has said her client will assist the police ""as best he can with their inquiries"".
