Adele Recorded "Skyfall" Theme in "10 Minutes," Says Producer

Adele's hit theme song for the James Bond movie Skyfall is an epic, dramatic work that some have compared to the legendary Bond theme songs of the past by Shirley Bassey .  But according to her producer and co-writer, the new mom managed to bang out the vocals to the tune in under a quarter of an hour.

Speaking to Hollywood.com , Paul Epworth , who co-wrote the song with Adele and produced it, says that he initially came up with the music for the song, and then called up Adele and asked her what she thought.  She loved it, he says, and when she got into the studio, according to Epworth, "Within 10 minutes, she put down most of the vocals."

He adds, "She had the lyrics ready in her head when she drove over.  It was the most absurd thing.  She's fast, but it was really quite phenomenal."

Epworth also tells the Wall Street Journal that when Adele sang "Skyfall," it was her first recorded performance since the vocal surgery that sidelined her for most of last year.

"I think she was restrained in the early part in the first session. I think the first vocals you hear on the track, it was the first thing she sang outside of her therapist’s office," says Epworth.  "She was very tentative, and I think that helped shape the feeling of the song."

He adds, "When we came back to cut it in May, she had been singing quite a bit, so in some of the later parts of the song I think she sounds much more confident."

Confident enough for the song to be nominated for a Golden Globe, and to be eligible for an Oscar nomination as well.  If "Skyfall" wins the Oscar, it will be the first Bond song in 50 years of the iconic films ever to do so.
