McCollum exhausts appeals in child pornograhpy conviction

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – A convicted sex offender caught with a large stash of child pornography in his dresser drawer at a home in Wausau has exhausted his chances for appeal.

Clyde McCollum Junior is currently serving a 10 year prison sentence on the charges, and has had a series of appeals to the appeals court be dismissed without merit. The state supreme court denied taking up his appeal this week. He pled no contest to 35 counts of possessing child pornography and judge dismissed 40 other counts last fall.

McCollum has repeatedly attempted to run his appeal on his own, filing numerous unsuccessful pro se motions in the case, and also repeatedly requested his sentence be served in a group home.

McCollum lived with two other people at a Wausau home, including a mother who has been sentenced to five years in prison for letting her live-in boyfriend rape her 9-year-old daughter. Police found the porn as they investigated a report that McCollum planned to run away with the girl and marry her.

McCollum was convicted in 1988 for touching a young girl inappropriately in Illinois. He has also been convicted of failing to comply with the sex offender registry. Illinois authorities have had a warrant out for McCollum's arrest for the past four years on four unrelated charges he possessed child pornography.
