HEWITT, Wis. (WSAU) – Investigators looking into the cause of a fire at an old schoolhouse in the town of Hewitt think it may have been intentionally set.
Fire Chief Robin Siikarla said the fire appeared suspicious because the building does not have electricity and was not occupied.
The state fire marshal's office is helping investigate.
The fire started about 9:30 Tuesday night. Heavy smoke billowed from the building as firefighters arrived. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control in about 15 minutes.
Siikarla said it was hard to estimate the extent of the damage because of pre-existing holes in the roof and partially broken windows.
