MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - A Madison woman is going to court, after she lost her public housing subsidy because her son was charged with murder.
Justine Mays has filed suit in Dane County Circuit Court.
She said Madison's Community Development Authority was wrong to pull her federal Section 8 rent subsidy.
Federal law allows local officials to remove relatives of alleged criminal defendants from subsidized housing. The housing authority has 20 days to respond to the lawsuit.
Meanwhile, Sabrina Madison has arranged a family fundraising day on February 11th to benefit Mays.
Madison read about Mays' plight in a Wisconsin State Journal story, and she wanted to help raise money for Mays' rent and other future housing costs.
