WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) Wausau may add more staff to the city's inspections department to deal with a growing number of property complaints.
There's only one city inspector, Bill Hebert, who deal with more than 2,500 property complaints a year. Two positions were cut from his department over the last five years.
The city council identified quality-of-life concerns like blighted property and bad landlords as one of its top priorities this year.
Community development director Ann Werth says more staffing will be needed to address existing problems and to be proactive with other landowners who's properties are falling into disrepair. The city hasn't decided how much to spend on the issue, or how to pay for more staff.
