On the one-year anniversary of Amy Winehouse 's death, her father remembered the late Grammy winner with a poignant article published by the U.K. edition of the Huffington Post on Monday.
In the article, Mitch Winehouse recalls how he bonded with Amy through music. He writes that she "always surrounded herself with music, even during her darkest times."
Mitch praises his daughter's lyrics as being "so well-observed, so pertinent, so clever," though he notes that he has a difficult time listening to her breakthrough album, Back to Black , because most of the songs are about her ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil , "and all of the terrible things he put her through."
Mitch concludes his article in part by writing, "Sometimes listening to Amy's music helps me; sometimes it makes me feel more sad. I miss Amy more than I can say."
Amy died from accidental alcohol poisoning at the age of 27.
