MARSHFIELD, Wis. (WSAU) – Marshfield officials are crediting a quick response in locating a missing girl just two hours after she was reported missing.
Police say 12-year-old Helen Glaser was found safely in a local business just a few hours after she was reported missing on Saturday. Lead officer Jody Geurink says Glaser walked off from a home she was visiting and got turned around. “She wasn't from the area and didn't know where anything was.”
Geurink says the department called out auxiliary officers and the fire department to help in the search, and put out a media blitz to help find the girl. “We're lucky it wasn't as serious as it could have been.” He's crediting part of the recovery to a new texting service with the city that sent out a description of the girl to people's cell phones.
