WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) Wausau city leaders will ask the police department to play at role in fighting property blight. A city council request will ask the mayor to use some police resources to help with the problem.
One proposal from council member Keene Winters asks if police could issue property violations, which currently come from the city's inspections and zoning department, which is down to one inspector. Other part-time positions have been cut in past years, and there is usually a backlog of complaints.
Inspector Bill Hebert said help from police is an idea with investigating. Police are looking into how the change would impact officer training. The city's legal department will also look into the issue.
