WAUPACA, Wis (WSAU) Kraft Foods told employees that its Waupaca plant will close down next year. Production will be added at the Wausau facility. Workers were told about the change yesterday. It will take effect sometime after April, 2013.
Jim Durkin, the Vice President of Kraft's cheese and diary unit says the company will save money by combining operations in Wausau. Some work will be outsourced to other suppliers. Once production ends, the Waupaca property will be sold.
The Waupaca shut down is a net jobs-loss for Central Wisconsin. 120 workers will lose their jobs. The Wausau plant will add about 20 positions. Laid off workers from Waupaca will have first priority for the new jobs.
