GRAND RAPIDS, MICH (WSAU) The road to the national championship begins this evening for 11 Wisconsin teams in the N-C-A-A’s Division-Three. Five state men’s basketball teams are part of the national Field-of-62. And six Wisconsin women’s teams are in a 64-team tournament. The women are up first, with games as early as four this afternoon. That’s when U-W Stevens Point plays Franklin in Grand Rapids Michigan. Wisconsin Lutheran takes on the host Calvin right after that, and the two winners will play in tomorrow’s second round. At Greencastle Indiana, U-W Whitewater goes against Carthage, and that winner will face either Westminster or host DePauw. At Saint Paul, U-W River Falls plays Coe College, with the winner to face either Martin Luther or the host Saint Thomas in Round-Two. And in Chicago, Eau Claire plays Simpson, with the winner to play Monmouth or unbeaten Chicago tomorrow.

On the men’s side, River Falls and Whitewater are each hosting a four-team regional. At River Falls, the host Falcons play Madison Edgewood this evening, after Wheaton takes on Gustavus Adolphus. Both winners will square off in Round-Two tomorrow. At Whitewater, the Warhawk men will host Northwestern of Minnesota, after Saint Thomas plays Claremont M-S in the opener. Carroll of Waukesha is in Lexington Kentucky to play the host Transylvania, and the winner faces either Wittenberg or Birmingham Southern tomorrow. And in Holland Michigan, Stevens Point goes against Illinois Wesleyan, with the winner to play either Westminster or the host Hope College in the second round.
