STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) - Every community has it’s unique characters. The Stevens Point community has just lost one.
If you regularly drive around the Stevens Point area, you knew him. You may not have known his name, or much about him... but you knew him. William Glisczinski was best known as “The Can Man.” He left his Park Ridge home nearly every day to clean up after us... at parks, events, and sporting events... driving that old oversized tricycle with bags of aluminum cans stacked on the back.
You never knew what part of Stevens Point or Plover you’d find him, as he often put on around ten miles a day. Glisczinski died Thursday after a brief illness at age 91. He was retired after forty years at Vetter’s Manufacturing and nearly twenty years before that at a potato farm. He was still doing his can route just over a week ago.
Glisczinski was never married and had no immediate family. Funeral services are Tuesday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, starting at 10:30.
