WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) - Marathon County’s investigation into immigration policy is continuing. The County’s Executive Committee voted Wednesday to send Jim Rosenberg to an upcoming Washington D.C. meeting where several organizations are preparing options to present to Congress.
County Administrator Brad Karger says Marathon County realizes they need some immigration guideline to follow, and they don’t want to create something that isn’t in line with future federal guidelines.
Karger says they realized Marathon County has a large number of workers from over the border and there could be a potential public health problem. He says several area industries rely on immigrant labor.
Delegate Jim Rosenberg intends to meet with several organizations including the Chamber of Commerce, which are all concerned about how new federal immigration policy will impact local businesses and governments.
