UNDATED (WSAU) - Many families are doing last-minute preparations today for their family’s Thanksgiving dinner. Many others are making those preparations for people they don’t know. Several church and community groups host community dinners with all of the traditional Thanksgiving favorites. Many of these meals are free.
Portage County Veterans Service Officer Michael Clements says one such meal is hosted for our military service personnel and their families. It’s the fourth annual Freedom Feast. "This is a complete turkey dinner for free to any service member, their families, and veterans."
The Freedom Feast is sponsored by American Legion Post #6 and Graffitti’s in Stevens Point.
Clements says the food is all lined up, but they could use a few more helpers. "The meal will begin at noon, and will be completed when they serve the last veteran and their families." The Freedom Feast is expected to wrap up by 4:00 p.m.
They could still use some volunteers to help serve dinner. Anyone interested in helping can call (715) 344-4450.
Several churches and community organizations are also hosting free Thanksgiving dinners, including St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Merrill, St. Bronislava Church in Plover, Northern Lights Church of God in Rhinelander, St. Mary’s Corpus Christi Center in Tomahawk, and the First Presbyterian Church of Wausau.
