MOSINEE, WI (WSAU) -  An off-duty firefighter was in the right place at the right time Thanksgiving Day, alerting a Mosinee family that their garage was on fire. 

Firefighter Scott Klinger was taking a walk when he noticed smoke a few blocks away. He discovered a garage fully engulfed in fire just a few feet from a house. Klinger and another off duty firefighter alerted the family inside and evacuated them and their neighbors to safety. They were unaware of the danger outside. The garage and a vehicle were destroyed. The home had some heat damage, but was saved. Several other nearby structures escaped damage. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
