SCHOFIELD, Wis (WSAU) Teachers in the D.C. Everest School District were under a salary freeze last year. They'll be getting modest $750 raises this year. Teachers on the low end of the pay scale will get slightly more -- and teachers on the higher end will get slightly less. The goal is to raise minimum salaries for newer teachers to help attract better staff for any openings at the end of the school year.

The agreement between the district and the teachers union was announced yesterday. Administrators say school taxes won't be going up -- they'll make spending cuts elsewhere.

The district is budgeting for one year of pay raises only, but they expect the raises to stay in place for future budgets.
