SARATOGA, Wis (WSAU) Saratoga's plan commission approved a zoning change that would keep a proposed mega-dairy from coming to town. The full town board is expected to give its approval later this month.
The proposed Golden Sands Dairy would be in a rural preservation zone, where large agricultural operations would not be allowed. The mega-dairy would have had 3,500 cows on about 6,000 acres of land. Other neighbors had voiced concerns over high-capacity wells, the use of manure, and the impact on property values. The DNR's permitting process won't be complete until the spring.
Wysocki Farms, which is proposing the mega-dairy, has already announced plans to sue the town - saying it’s illegal to change zoning laws to block a specific project.
