$1M bond set for Kenosha man charged in woman's death

KENOSHA, WI (WTAQ) - A $1 million cash bond was set Thursday for a Kenosha man accused of beating and strangling a woman to death, and leaving her body in a cemetery.

52-year-old Javier Garcia is charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the slaying of 26-year-old Lisa Mezera.

A police officer said he found the victim’s partially-clad body on August 19th while passing by a cemetery in the town of Somers near Kenosha.

The next day, Mezera’s father called police to report his daughter missing. And he told officers he last saw her on August 18th when she left with a co-worker whom she called “Javier.”

Prosecutors said the two were co-workers who had spent more time together in the days before she died.

An autopsy revealed that Mezera died from strangulation – and blunt force trauma to the head was a contributing factor.

Garcia is due back in court a week from Thursday, when a judge will decide if there’s enough evidence to order a trial.
