WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) - A woman has died after a Wednesday morning car-deer crash. 52-year-old Rebecca Karlen was driving eastbound on Highway N at about 7:00 am. when a westbound car struck a deer causing the deer to crash through her windshield. 33-year-old Andrew Nelson of Schofield was the driver who first had contact with the deer. He was not injured. Marathon County Sheriff’s Deputies say Karlen was taken to Aspirus Wausau Hospital for treatment.
In 2011, Wisconsin had five fatalities from deer crashes and 427 car-deer incidents that resulted in injuries. Someone died in a Marathon County deer crash in 2010.
