Ever since Justin Bieber complained that he had a laptop and camera with "personal footage" stolen, fans have been speculating as to the nature of said footage.  But now it appears that the entire thing was an elaborate prank designed to promote Justin's brand-new video.

After Justin complained of the theft, a Twitter user known only as @gexwy popped up and claimed he had the footage, taunting Justin for his "weak" password, and threatening to release something at noon Friday that would change the way his fans think about him.  Justin responded , "no matter what you have and what you post tomorrow i know my fans wont leave me. screw it. #toostrong ."  The Twitter user replied, "haha. that is what u think. we will see tomorrow at NOON."

Come noon, @gexwy tweeted, "I told you I would post something WORTH watching and talking about," he tweeted. "And HERE it is."  And he posted a link ...to a video for Justin's song "Beauty and a Beat," featuring Nicki Minaj .

The video begins with the words, "In October of 2012, three hours of personal footage was stolen from musician Justin Bieber.   The following footage was uploaded by an anonymous blogger."  A montage of what looks like "found" footage of Justin follows, but then the music starts.  We see Justin smiling into a camera and walking by a ping-pong table, on which is written the words, "Beauty and a Beat, written and directed and shot by Justin Bieber."

Justin starts singing, walking backwards while filming himself with a handheld camera.  He appears to be at some sort of water park -- there's a pool with synchronized swimmers, and bikini-clad girls dancing around.  Next, we see people doing acrobatics, and men and women dancing.  Justin joins them, and they all start dancing while standing in a shallow pool where the water only reaches up to their ankles.   Next, Justin's singing underwater, there's more synchronized swimming, and we see a series of digital cameras placed underwater, with screens showing Justin singing.

Then a tutu-clad Nicki Minaj suddenly appears, standing on a runway in the middle of a swimming pool, spitting her verses as Justin begins gyrating next to her.  Then more dancing, singing, swimming and splashing...and the video ends with Justin sliding down a water slide and going under.

Well-played, Biebs.
