MADISON, WI (WSAU) Ryan Groy will make his first start at left tackle on Saturday, when the Wisconsin Badgers host Minnesota. Coach Bret Bielema said Groy made his first start as a fullback, and has since started at guard and center for the Badgers.
He’ll replace Ricky Wagner, who injured his right knee in last Saturday’s win at Purdue. Offensive line coach Bart Miller has said that Wagner should not be out for more than a week. He did not practice yesterday.
Bielema said Groy played a special game against the Boilermakers, with strong execution despite his lack of experience at the left tackle spot. Also, Robert Burge worked with the Number-One offense yesterday at Groy’s former left guard spot.
The 5-and-2 Badgers will play a Minnesota team that already has more wins than all of last season under second-year coach Jerry Kill. The Gophers are 4-and-2 overall. They’re still looking for their first Big Ten victory after two tries, while the Badgers are 2-and-1 in conference play.
