Milwaukee Art Museum hosting rare masterpiece painting exhibit

MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - Wisconsin art lovers can see four dozen ancient masterpiece paintings – most of which have never been shown outside of London.

The pieces are from classic artists including Rembrandt – and they normally stay at the Kenwood House in England. But the neo-classical villa is undergoing renovations, so its best works have gone on the road in the United States.

The Milwaukee Art Museum is the only Midwest location to host the 48 painting exhibit, called “Rembrandt, Van Dyck, Gainsborough – the Treasures of Kenwood House.”

It features one of Rembrandt’s last self-portraits entitled “Portrait of the Artist” from around 1665.

The display continues through January 13th at Milwaukee’s downtown museum along Lake Michigan. It’s been in Houston, and will be in Seattle and Little Rock Arkansas next year.
