WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) - Local education officials and business leaders met on Friday to talk about the youth apprenticeship options in Central Wisconsin.
NTC officials are offering that program to students across the area in a wide range of fields, but are looking for more employers to offer positions. NTC K-12 coordinator Donna Shultz says there are many fields to choose from. "Finance, engineering, manufacturing, there's many chances for jobs for students."
Schultz says one of the newest and largest growing fields is finance, where local banks and credit unions are helping to train tellers and financial assistance workers. She also says it offers students one of their best early chances at choosing a career. "It gives students a chance to work in that setting and then they have options once they get out of school."
Officials from NTC say students should talk with their counselors if they want to try out for the program. Applications are required and the program is open to juniors and seniors. Businesses looking to offer help should also contact NTC at 715-675-3331.
