STEVENS POINT, Wis. –Freshmen goalkeeper Kristen Churkey , a DC Everest grad,  blocked a UW-La Crosse Eagle penalty kick after double-overtime to advance the Pointers to the second round of the 2012 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) women's soccer tournament.

  Box Score

La Crosse started the scoring early as Saskia Taylor put the Eagles up 1-0 less than seven minutes into the game. Senior Kelsey Majerus (Cottage Grove, MN/Park) knotted the game at 1-1 as she scored a controversial goal 17 minutes in. Both teams remained scoreless the rest of regulation, sending the game into overtime.

The Pointers and Eagles battled their way through two sudden-death overtimes without a goal.  Angela Gallow (Menasha, WI/Menasha), Sammy Greer (Rubicon, WI/Hartford) and Kim Jobke (Menomonee Falls, WI/Sussex Hamilton) all connected on their attempts, giving the host Pointers a 3-2 edge.

After Churkey turned away the La Crosse PK, Kelsey Majerus (Cottage Grove, MN/Park) stepped up and sent her shot right down the middle to seal the win for the Pointers. Goalkeeper Churkey recorded the win, tallying three saves. Her counterpart, Sagan Pizzingrille, recorded seven.
