Marshfield man sentenced for child porn

by

MADISON, WI (WSAU) -  A Marshfield man will spend 90 months in prison after being convicted of possessing child pornography. 49-year-old Bryan Erbst will have a lifetime of supervised release when he finishes that prison sentence.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Altman prosecuted the case after undercover officers downloaded several videos from a peer-to-peer file sharing program Erbst was using. This evidence was collected in February of 2011. A search warrant allowed officers to find numerous child pornography videos and images stored on his computer equipment.

The charge against Erbst was the result of an investigation conducted by U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
