Last week, the Internet swirled with rumors that Chris Brown split with on-again, off-again girlfriend Rihanna , but on Monday's Today show, Chris said they're "fine."

"They got it wrong," the 23-year-old singer declared, saying the reports originated with an older interview he'd done.  "So as far as me and her are concerned, she knows my heart, and I know her heart," Chris said of his relationship with Rihanna.

Chris stopped by the NBC morning program to push his latest single, "Fine China," an uptempo track from his forthcoming album, X . The Sylvan White -directed video dropped on Monday morning as well.

Despite Breezy's recent musical efforts, NBC's Matt Lauer focused the majority of his questions on the 2009 assault conviction Chris faced after hitting Rihanna, a topic that Matt said the singer previously refused to discuss.

"For me, you know, I've been humbled by the whole experience," Chris told Matt. "From me losing everything, you know, to me having to regain public opinion or whatever it is -- but most importantly, you know, knowing that what I did was totally wrong and having to kind of deal with myself and kind of forgive myself in the same breath and being able to apologize to, you know, Rihanna and be that man that can be a man."

Chris added. "I think it's me just [having to prove] myself once again, and also just me being a man, and knowing that what I did was wrong, and never doing it again."

When asked if he was concerned that critics would only think he's discussing the incident to promote his new album, Chris replied, "I think everybody is entitled to their opinion. For me, it's just a learning process. You know, I have to just take it one day at a time. I can't make everybody like me."

X is due out in late August or early September, according to Billboard .  In a tweet about his new "Fine China" video, Chris explains that he's paying tribute to Michael Jackson with the clip, which features him showing off dance moves -- and vocals -- inspired by the King of Pop.
