WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) - The driver that died in a crash on Wausau’s Thomas Street was battling addiction. 24-year-old Michael Dixon died Saturday March 23rd, after leaving a treatment center the day before. That’s according to his father, Ralph Dixon in an interview with WAOW Television. Ralph Dixon said Michael had talked with the family many times for help trying to beat the addiction.
Wausau Police confirmed last week that a syringe, a spoon, and a lighter were found in the car leading them to suspect Michael Dixon may have been using heroin before the crash. They are awaiting toxicology reports to confirm if the drugs were a contributing factor in the incident.
Michael’s 4-year-old son Jordan was in the back seat of the Toyota Camry when it crashed into the bridge at a high rate of speed. Jordan remains at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield in critical condition.
