Man charged in fatal hit-run crash in Waukesha Co. starting over

WAUKESHA, WI (WTAQ) - A court case against a man accused of killing a woman in a hit-and-run crash last summer is starting over in Waukesha County.

28-year-old Edgar Montano was close to going to trial on five felony charges, when defense lawyer Bradley Bloch said his client had trouble understanding what was going on in court.

Montano speaks both English and Spanish – and Bloch says people with mixed use of languages comprehend things differently than others. Bloch said an interpreter should have been provided from the start of the case last summer – and judge ordered the interpreter as the proceedings started over Monday.

Montano is accused of killing Jean Feagle of Waukesha, while she and her teenage daughter were pushing a car down a dark road. A passenger in the vehicle lost her unborn child.

Montano remains in jail under a quarter-million dollar bond, and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for next Monday on charges of negligent and drunken homicide, hit-and-run causing death and injury, and drunken homicide of an unborn child.
