WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) - An appointee to Wausau's City Council has won his first election.

Robert Mielke won his race Tuesday night against challenger Mark Lambert 333-145. Mielke was appointed last year after long time alderman Ed Gale stepped down from the position. Mielke says he's excited to be proven in this way. "I want to be humble but I'm pleased to say the least."

Mielke says continuing the work on fighting blight will be one of his top priorities along with working on jobs for Wausau and promoting openness in government.

Robert is an Army veteran who now works as a pest control specialist in Wausau. He was chosen to fill the role in August of 2012. He'll be back up for the regular election cycle for the 11th district in 2014.
