GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) The Green Bay Packers have the N-F-L’s sixth-highest amount of salary cap space available. But it won’t stay that way for long, as the team’s about to sign Aaron Rodgers and Clay Matthews to new deals.
The Packers have not signed any free agents. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel says scouts have been told to hold up until the Rodgers and Matthews contracts get done.
The latest speculation is that Rodgers will get around 25-million-dollars a year, and Matthews 13-million. For now, the N-F-L players’ union says the Packers have just under 18-million-dollars in salary cap room. And they’ll have to determine how to squeeze both Rodgers and Matthews under the cap, while negotiations continue for both.
They have the same agent, David Dunn – and he reportedly wants both deals done before Green Bay’s off-season conditioning program begins later this month.
Jacksonville has the most salary cap space available, with just over 28-million dollars.
