PHILLIPS, WI (WXPR) - Two school districts are looking at options after voters Tuesday turned down operating referendums.
The margin at Phillips is razor-thin. Prior to a recount, the vote was 1,092 against the operating money with 1,085 in favor. Superintendent Wally Liepart(lee part) says absentee voters will be added in but likely wouldn't change the vote. Either way, he says a recount is likely to occur.
At Wabeno, voters unofficially turned down an operating referendum by a 555 to 521 margin. District Administrator Kim Odekirk says they won't go back to voters for one year, so the board will have to make decisions.
Liepart felt the issue at Phillips wasn't a spending issue as much as a funding issue.
Voters in the Elcho district approved their operating referendum by a 576 to 525 margin.
