MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Acting US Commerce Secretary Rebecca Blank was hired today to become the next chancellor at U-W Madison.
The Board of Regents unanimously confirmed a search committee’s selection of Blank to replace David Ward, the interim chancellor who filled in for two years after Biddy Martin left.
The Regents also voted to hire David Schmidt from Winona State as the new chancellor at the four-year UW campus in Eau Claire. Both new chancellors will start this summer.
Blank will get $495,000 a year – and a private endowment from the UW Foundation and the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation will cover part of her salary.
Schmidt’s salary was set at $220,000 a year.
